YouTube Music allows watching and listening to music videos. YouTube Music pairs your song with your album cover art (YouTube calls this an “Art Track”) and you earn money when those Art Tracks are streamed on YouTube.  With a reach of one billion unique users monthly, YouTube Music gives you the power to connect with more fans worldwide.

The service offers ad-free, audio-only playback for background listening in addition to video viewing, as well as offline listening.  It will also include a subscription to Google Play Music, with 30+ million songs, expert-curated playlists, and in the coming days, the ability to watch many YouTube official music videos right from the app.

When you deliver an album to this channel, it will be made available and monetized in the YouTube Music service. Even if you have your music videos already on YouTube, adding YouTube Music gives you broader distribution and access to an additional income stream.

Service Type

YouTube Music makes your music available via the creation of Art Tracks. An Art Track is an automatically generated YouTube version of a sound recording. An Art Track consists of the sound recording, the album art, and metadata about the recording, such as its title and artist name.

The purpose of Art Tracks is to provide a single official, label-sanctioned YouTube version of every sound recording. Currently, official music videos are available for recordings only when a label or artist invests (non-trivial) time and resources into producing one. Art Tracks automate the creation of versions for recordings that don’t have a produced music video.

Art Tracks are available to either free or premium users on YouTube. You can find more information about art tracks here.

Pay rate

When an Art Track is reproduced on YouTube, you get paid a proportionate share of of YouTube Music subscription revenue per month calculated on terms set out in our agreement with the store (this usually excludes streams during a subscriber's free trial). Payments will fluctuate each month, depending on the amount of subscription revenue generated and how often your music was streamed.
